The Ligurian Sea is a beautiful part of the Mediterranean Sea, located between the northwest coast of Italy and the island of Corsica. The area is known for its dramatic landscapes, clear blue waters and rich history.

The sea covers an area of 120,000 km², with a measured depth of around 2,850 m at its lowest point. Rivers flow into it, originating in the Alps and the Apennines, the largest of which are the Arno - the 5th longest Italian river (241 km long), as well as the Serchio, Magra, Roia, Frigido, Arroscia and Lavagna.


The Ligurian coast is lined with a number of important ports, the main one being Genoa - important for the foreign trade of Central and Southern European countries, including the Czech Republic, and the ports of Savona, La Spezia, Livorno and Piombino. There are also many small tourist and fishing ports.

The Ligurian Sea and especially its coastline is an ideal place for excursions - to the east of Genoa we find larger Italian cities such as Livorno or La Spezia, this part is called the Levante. To the west of Genoa is the Ponente and the famous Ligurian Riviera with the seaside resorts of Diano Marina, Alassio, San Remo, Pietra Ligure, Loano and Imperia. Close to the border, you can visit the world-famous resorts of Nice, Cannes and St. Tropez in France and the Principality of Monaco with the resort of Monte Carlo.
