Friuli Venezia Giulia is the Italian region that is the first to cross the border into Austria. The southern part of the region is bathed by the Adriatic Sea with many tourist areas. Tourists will find here very well maintained sandy beaches with a gradual entry into the sea.
Friuli Venezia Giulia is very rich in cultural monuments. The capital of the region is Udine, in which we can find traces of the old Roman civilization. Other important cities of the region are Trieste, Gorizia or Pordenone. palmanova and Aquileia are two other important historical towns (and UNESCO monuments) in the region of Julian Venice that are definitely worth a visit. The renowned seaside resorts include Grado and Lignano, while the mountain resorts include Tarvisiano and Karnie.
Lignano has been one of Northern Italy's most popular seaside resorts for over 30 years, and not just for family holidays. Lignano offers its visitors a wealth of activities (aquapark, zoo, amusement parks, discos, a typical weekly market, bustling streets with bars and cafes, but also quiet areas with villas in peace and greenery).
Friuli Venezia Giulia is made up of mountains in the north and flat land in the south. The area is also famous for its grape growing and the specialities of the local cuisine.
