A natural wonder
The Fontanone di Goriuda waterfall is approximately 80 metres high. The water that falls over the rock overhang comes from underground rivers and lakes in the area. The waterfall is famous not only for its impressive height, but also for the fact that there is a small cave behind it, which you can explore and observe the waterfall from the other side. This unique "inside" viewing creates a magical atmosphere, especially on a sunny day when the sun's rays shine through the flow of water.
The path to the waterfall
Getting to the Fontanone di Goriuda is relatively easy. The route starts in the village of Pian delle Fontanacce, where there is a car park. Here you can take a short and easy hike that takes about 15 minutes. The trail itself leads through beautiful mountain meadows and past a small river that gradually turns into a strong stream from which the waterfall eventually forms.
The best time to visit Fontanone di Goriuda is in spring or early summer, when the snow melts and the waterfall is at its most powerful. In summer, the climate is pleasant, attracting tourists and locals who come here to escape the heat. The waterfall is also beautiful in winter when the surrounding rocks are covered in ice, but the journey here can be more difficult because of the ice and snow.
