The Umbria region is located inland, in the central part ofItalybetween the counties ofTuscany,MarcheaLazio. You won't find the sea here and therefore not as many tourists come here as to the coastal areas. The landscape is mainly mountainous, but the green hills and valleys are definitely worth a visit!
Probably the most famous place in Umbria is the romantic Lake Trasimeno, surrounded by historic towns and picturesque villages. Although it covers 128 km², it is not very deep (usually 6-7 metres) and no rivers or streams flow out of it, only tributaries. There are several towns and villages along the coast, such as Castiglione del Lago, San Feliciano, Passignano sul Trasimeno and Tuoro sul Trasimeno.
The capital of the Umbria region is the famous university town of Perugia, with many historical monuments dating back to Etruscan times, especially the original walls and especially the famous Fontana Maggiore fountain. Other towns such as Assisi, Foligno, Gubbio and Orvieto are also worth mentioning.
