Orvieto is a beautiful ancient town in Umbria, central Italy, located inland about 100 km north of Rome. It was built by the Etruscans on a rock of volcanic tuff.
One of the main attractions of Orvieto is its magnificent cathedral (Duomo di Orvieto), which is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Italy.
Another attraction is the Orvieto Underground, an extensive system of underground passages and caves that was built by the Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago. These underground spaces were used as warehouses, workshops and shelters and are now open to the public through guided tours.
The town is also known for its excellent cuisine and wine. Orvieto Classico, a white wine produced in the area, is highly regarded for its quality and taste.
Local restaurants offer traditional Umbrian dishes such as truffles, pasta and various types of meat.
