The Marmore Falls were created in ancient times, when the Roman consul C. Curio Dentato had the local river Velino modified to drain the water from the marshes in the Rieti area. This engineering monument was used for both irrigation and flood protection. The falls measure approximately 165 metres, and are divided into three main sections that together create a spectacular view of the falling water.
The area around the falls is surrounded by lush greenery and pretty trails that offer breathtaking views. In addition to the waterfall itself, there are also a number of viewpoints where you can enjoy the sight of the powerful stream of water crashing against the rocks and creating a mist over the valley.
MarmoreFalls offers a wide range of activities. You can choose from hiking trails that will take you through the surrounding countryside, or take a bike tour. For adrenaline enthusiasts, there are also paddling trips on the Velino River, which allow you to enjoy the beauty of the landscape from a different angle.
Every year there is the "Light and Sound Show" (Spettacolo di luci e suoni), which offers a visit to thethe waterfalls are illuminated in different colours, creating a magical atmosphere.
