The Green Flag (Bandiera Verde) is an award given by Italian paediatricians to beaches that meet specific conditions suitable for families with children. This certification guarantees not only the cleanliness of the sea, but also safety, availability of services and quality facilities.

Criteria for obtaining the Green Flag

In order to be awarded the Bandiera Verde, a beach must meet several important conditions:

  • A gradual entrance to the sea that allows safe swimming even for the youngest children.

  • A fine sandy surface, ideal for playing and building forts.

  • Floats, i.e. a lifeguard service that ensures maximum safety.

  • Availability of playgrounds and activities to keep children entertained.

  • Plenty of shade and amenities such as umbrellas, showers and toilets.

So, in addition to the normal cleanliness requirements, it must meet other criteria: the beach must be sandy and wide enough, with a gradual entry into the water, and supervised by a lifeguard.and first aid, larger umbrella spacing, restaurants/pizzerias within easy reach, ice cream and a playground.
