All over the island there are beautiful sandy, pebbly or cliff-side beaches on which to spend a relaxing holiday. We'll start in the northeast of the island, where La Galluro, which translates to the rocky area, stretches out. It is characterised by long, narrow coves, rocks and islands. This area has some of the most intimate and wild beaches where visitors can enjoy total relaxation away from all civilisation. Li Cossi is a magical beach with golden sand, washed by clear turquoise sea.
Located in a sheltered bay, surrounded by cliffs forming interesting formations. The beach can be reached either on foot from the village of Costa Paradiso, where you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic views as you walk, or by boat. Another beach is the tiny cove of Cala Spinosa, ideal for those who like to dive. La Spiaggia del Principe is a sandy beach, characterized by its shape of a large white arch and surrounded by beautiful nature.
In the Galluro area there is also the Maddalena archipelago, a group of more than 60 islands and islets, the only inhabited ones being Caprera and La Maddalena. This archipelago is an earthly paradise full of beautiful beaches with crystal blue sea. One of them is Cala dello Spalmatore, a beautiful elongated beach with fine sand and very rich fauna and flora, ideal for diving. The beach also has a long stone pier where visitors can "catch bronze" and watch the beautifully coloured sea. The beach that is considered the pearl of the Mediterranean is Spiaggia Rossa. It is set among granite cliffs covered with rich vegetation and is characterised by a very fine whiteit is also known as "pink beach". It is truly a masterpiece of nature and I definitely recommend you to visit it at least once in your lifetime.
Golfo di Orosei, or Orosei Bay, is one of the other places on the island that is rich in beautiful beaches and coves. Cala Luna is one of the most spectacular beaches in the area. It's long and spacious, and there are beautiful caves nearby where visitors can hide from the heat of the sun. Another beach that, like Cala Luna, is nestled between beautiful cliffs overlooking the sea is Cala Sisine. The beach is characterised by its dazzling white pebbles and the utter tranquillity of its setting. Not far from Cala Sisine is another beautiful beach, Cala Biriola. Last but not least, there is Cala Mariolu, also nicknamed the beach of thieves. This is because the bay once served as an ideal fishing spot. But fishermen weren't the only ones who frequented the place, seals were other visitors to the coast, and they would secretly steal the fishermen's catch.
The easiest way to reach all the beaches mentioned in the Gulf of Orosa is by boat from the town of Cala Gonone.
Finally, we come to the north of Sardinia to the town of Stintino, which has gone from a mere fishing village to ato a residential town in its own right, thanks to its beach, La Pelosa (first picture above). The beach is characterised by its white fine sand, the unique transparency of the sea and the intense scent of the whimsicalit looks as if it was painted by a famous painter who wanted to perfect his work. From the beach, visitors have a beautiful view not only of the sea, but also of the tiny island on which the Tower of Aragon stands. It once served as a defence against pirate raids. La Pelosa is considered the very symbol of Sardinia and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Entrance is charged and you must make a reservation online here.
