What is a must-see?
Greek Theatre (Teatro Greco)
One of the largest and best preserved monuments in Sicily. Originally built by the Greeks and rebuilt by the Romans, who converted it into an arena for gladiatorial fights.
The theatre offers not only an amazing glimpse into the past, but also panoramic views of Mount Etna and the sea, and on a clear day you can even see Calabria. Every year, theatre performances, concerts and a film festival are held here.
Corso Umberto I.
The main street of the city, where you can soak up the atmosphere of Sicilian life. Here you will find shops selling local ceramics, fashion boutiques, cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy authentic Sicilian specialties such as arancini or sweet cannoli.
Piazza IX Aprile
The square is the heart of Taormina's social life. It is located in the middle of Corso Umberto I and is surrounded by historic buildings, including the Baroque church of San Giuseppe and the Gothic-Norman tower of Torre dell'Orologio. The square is paved with black and white mosaics, but the main attraction is the terrace with a view. From here you can see the sea, the slopes of Taormina and Mount Etna. In the early evening, street musicians often play and there is a relaxed atmosphere.
Villa Comunale
The gardens originally belonged to the eccentric English noblewoman Florence Trevelyan. Today, they are the ideal place to stroll, relax and take photos. The gardens are full of exotic plants, flower beds and romantic paths among the pines and palm trees.
One of the unique features are the unusual buildings that Florence designed - the so-called "bird towers" (birdwatching habitats) where she indulged her passion for ornithology. The gardens also offer views of the sea and Mount Etna.
Isola Bella
This small island, connected to the mainland by a narrow sandy isthmus, is a true natural gem. It is located in a protected area and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Taormina area. The water is clear blue and ideal for swimming or snorkelling.it is an ideal destination for snorkelling or sunbathing on one of the nearby beaches.
Not just a sightseeing destination, but also a gourmet paradise
Sicily is famous for its cuisine and Taormina is no exception. We recommend trying Pasta alla Norma - pasta with eggplant, tomatoes, ricotta and basil. In summer, indulge in Granita with brioche - a traditional iced dessert that will refresh you on hot days.
And, of course, the Etna DOC wine, from the vineyards on the slopes of the volcano, is not to be missed.
