If you think that water parks and aquariums are mainly for children, Aquarium Cattolica will prove you wrong. This place isn't just about cute little fish - it's an adventurous journey into the depths of the sea and far awaysharks, crocodiles, jellyfish and mysterious fish from the depths where sunlight never reaches. And all just steps from the beach!

Sea expedition without a wetsuit

The Aquarium Cattolica is one of the largest aquariums in all of Italy, and when you go inside, it's as if you've dived underwater. You'll find four themed routes - blue, yellow, green and purple, each taking you to a different world. Blue is pure marine - from colourful tropical fish to giant sharks swimming right over your head. Standing under the glass tunnel and watching these elegant predators glide silently past you is an experience you won't soon forget.

Rainforest at your fingertips

The Yellow Line takes you from the depths of the sea straight into the tropical rainforest. Here you'll not only meet iguanas and piranhas, but also real caimans lying motionless in the water, waiting for their chance. The atmosphere is perfect - humidity, mysterious jungle sounds and light filtering through the leaves of tropical plants.

Jellyfish as a work of art

If you're looking for something truly hypnotic, head to the purple trail. Here, jellyfish reign supreme, floating in specially lit tanks that look like light installations in a modern exhibition. It's fascinating to watch their graceful movement, which is calming.

Our tip: shark feeding and meeting the penguins

Want to spice up your visit? Take a look at the shark feeding schedule - when you see these predators getting into motion, you suddenly have even more respect for them. And if you have a soft spot for the cute creatures, don't miss meeting the Humboldt penguins that live in Cattolica 's outdoor pool. Their clumsy waddling on land and graceful swimming in the water is guaranteed to lift your spirits.

Practical info

The Aquarium Cattolica can be found right on the seafront, at Piazzale delle Nazioni 1/A. It is open from April to early November. In high season (July-August), opening hours extend into the evening. Admission is around €24 for adults and €19 for children, with smaller children under 1 metre tall getting in for free. Parking is available right at the site or in the surrounding area. You can always find up-to-date info about special events or guided feedings on their official website - www.acquariodicattolica.it.

After your visit to the aquarium, stop for ice cream at one of the gelaterias by the beach. We recommend pistachio or lemon, because after a tropical jungle and underwater adventure, refreshment by the sea tastes the best.
