The Italian resort of Otranto is located approximately 50 km from Lecce in the southern Italian region of Puglia. The shores are washed by the Ionian Sea and the beaches are pebbly. The lighthouse of Faro della Falasicia lies about 5 km from the town and is the easternmost point of Italy. Otranto was built on the foundations of the ancient city of Hydrus. For many years it was a very important port. The history of the town is commemorated by several monuments such as the Aragonese Castle or the 11th century cathedral. In the centre of Otranto there are many hotels, apartments, shops, cafes and restaurants.
