The historic centre and the Scaliger castle
Malcesine is dominated by the imposing Castello Scaligero, which stands on a rock right on the lake. Its origins date back to the 6th century, when it served as a fortress for defence against barbarians. Today, the castle is a museum with exhibitions dedicated to the history of Lake Garda, the local fauna and flora and historical weapons. The climb up the castle tower is unforgettable, offering a panoramic view of the lake, the mountains and the town.
In the heart of the town you will find Piazza Statuto, a lively square lined with cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Italian specialities. Take in the atmosphere of the narrow cobbled streets that lead to the Porto Vecchio harbour. This port was once a key point in the city's commercial life.

Monte Baldo cable car
One of the main attractions of Malcesine is the modern revolving cable car that takes you in a few minutes to Monte Baldo, nicknamed the "Garden of Europe". The peaks of the mountain offer unique views of the lake and the surrounding countryside. In summer you can enjoy hiking or mountain biking, while in winter Monte Baldo turns into a small ski resort. Botanists will enjoy the diverse vegetation, which includes rare alpine flowers.

Water sports and beaches
Lake Garda is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. In Malcesine you will find great conditions for windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding or sailing. If you prefer a quieter experience, take a romantic cruise on the lake or relax on one of the local beaches, such as Spiaggia Paina.
Boat trips to nearby towns
Malcesine is a great base for exploring the other wonders of Lake Garda. The local boat service will quickly take you to neighbouring towns such as Limone sul Garda on the opposite shore, famous for its citrus gardens, or Riva del Garda, an elegant town with a rich history.

Gastronomy
Malcesine offers many opportunities to enjoy the typical cuisine of the Lago di Garda area. Be sure to try the fresh fish from the lake, such as the local speciality called bigoli con sarde (thick spaghetti with sardines), or the famous olive oil produced here. With your meal, enjoy a glass of Lugano white wine, which comes from the surrounding vineyards.
Whether you're looking for a romantic holiday, an adventure in the mountains or tranquillity by the water, this little town won't disappoint. Come and be enchanted by one of the most beautiful places on the Lago di Garda.
