Lago di Garda is Italy's largest lake, situated between the Alps and the Po Valley. This destination is popular with water sports enthusiasts. The surrounding area is also suitable for hiking or cycling, in-line skating, climbing, horse riding, tennis, golf and other sports. There is typical Mediterranean vegetation such as cypresses, oleanders, olive trees, cedars and even palm trees in places. The area around Lago di Garda is rightly called the garden of Italy. The steep limestone walls of the Garda Mountains tower over the lake. As well as lazing by the lake, you can visit one of the theme parks or the Sirmione peninsula, home to the massive 13th-century Gothic castle of the Scaligers.
