Salerno is a town in southern Italy, located on the Tyrrhenian coast in the Campania region. It is a historic town with a long tradition that dates back to ancient times. Salerno is famous for its medieval cathedral, the Cattedrale di San Matteo, which is one of the main tourist attractions. The area around the town is known for its beautiful nature, including the nearby mountains and the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salerno is also home to a renowned university. The city has a port which is an important point for shipping and cruise ships. Salerno is an ideal base for visiting the surrounding towns and villages on the Amalfi Coast, such as Positano, Ravello and Amalfi.
