Pistoia is located in Tuscany, about 40 km from Florence. It is known for its history, medieval architecture and plant production, which is why it is called the "city of flowers". The historic centre is centred around the Piazza del Duomo, where St. Zenon's Cathedral stands with its magnificent Romanesque façade. Next to the cathedral is the octagonal Baptistery of St John with its white and green marble panelling. The Palazzo dei Vescovi is one of the oldest buildings in the city and offers a glimpse into the history of the region. Pistoia also has underground tunnels, which can be visited as part of the Pistoia Sotterranea tour. Every year the Pistoia Blues Festival is held here, attracting music fans from all over Italy. The town is also famous for the traditional Giostra dell'Orso, a medieval jousting tournament. Pistoia is an important centre of ceramics and its products decorate many local buildings. During your visit you should not miss the local markets with Tuscan specialities.
