Maratea is a town located in the Basilicata region, in the province of Potenza. It is the only town of this region located on the Tyrrhenian coast. Thanks to its magnificent scenery and coastline, it is called the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea".

Maratea is famous for its historic centre, where you will be captivated by its narrow streets, ancient churches and picturesque squares. The dominant feature of the town, however, is the monumental statue of Jesus the Saviour, which is the second largest statue of Christ in the world. It is similar to the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro. This imposing statue, 21 metres high, rises on the San Biagio mountain and offers a panoramic view of the whole area.

Pilgrims from all over the world come to worship here. The statue of Jesus the Saviour was built in pure marble in 1965 by the Florentine sculptor Bruno Innocenti.
