Livigno is a modern, popular and one of the absolute best ski resorts in Europe, which located in the duty-free zone between Italy and Switzerland at an altitude of 1820 m.
The winter access road here from Switzerland is via the one-way 3.3 km long Munt la Schera tunnel (for a fee), the tunnel is open 24 hours a day. Another access point is the Foscagno Pass (2291 m) near Bormio.
Thanks to the duty-free zone, you can shop very cheaply (e.g. cigarettes, alcohol, perfumes or fashionable clothes) even during an afternoon stroll along the long pedestrian zone lined with shops and cafés.
Livigno is the largest centre of the Alta Valtellina. It is one of the best winter resorts in Europe and is increasingly in demand. It offers excellent conditions for skiing - exceptional snow certainty, sunny weather and clear air, mostly modern lifts and a precisely functioning ski bus network. Skiing is possible on both sides of the mountain valley (Mottolino and Carosello 3000), and there are freeride skiing and snowboarding (the largest and most advanced park in the Alps). The area offers approximately 68 km of slopes in perhaps the most ideal ratio in terms of difficulty, 40 km of cross-country trails, ideal conditions for ski mountaineering, and the Aqua Granda swimming pool and wellness centre.
