Tiramisu
Tiramisu is a very popular and famous traditional Italian dessert. It is made from mascarpone cheese which is mixed with beaten eggs and sugar. The sponge cakes are dipped in strong coffee mixed with Amaretto and covered withbiscuits, cream, biscuits, sprinkle the last layer of cream with cocoa and leave in the fridge to set.
Tiramisu is one of Italy's most famous recipes today, but the history of the modern recipe can only be traced back to the 1970s around the town of Treviso in northern Italy. Similar recipes are also known from the Renaissance and originate from the cities of Siena, Florence and Venice. The word tiramisu is derived from tirami su, which translates as 'pick me up'. Thanks to mascarpone, this dessert is one of the fattiest desserts ever.
Profiterole
Another famous Italian dessert is profiterole, which was born in France, but their father is Italian. This chef was one of the top ten Italian chefs who worked at the French court. This dessert is made of batter and has been domesticated for good not only in France but also in Italy.
Profiteroles were originally served as small crispy balls filled with sweet or savoury fillings. Nowadays, however, the sweet version is the most popular - small battered loaves filled with vanilla cream or whipped cream and topped with a rich chocolate glaze.
Crostata
Crostata is a very common Italian dessert that is garnished with Nutella, marmalade or various fruits. This dessert often has a fluffy egg yolk cream and is topped with fresh fruit.
Panna cotta
Although it seems to be a dessert for sophisticated gourmets, its origins lie in Italian home cooking, where simple ingredients are used to create a perfect harmony of flavours.panna cotta has its origins in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy.
Panna cotta is made from cream, gelatine and caster sugar. Pour the cream and sugar into a saucepan and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Soak the gelatine in water, drain. Then add it to the pot and let it dissolve completely. Do not boil the cream, keep it at about 80 degrees. Then pour the mixture into the mold and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours. The panna cotta can be served drizzled with caramel.
Italian ice cream
Italian ice cream is probably the most famous. Real Italian ice cream is not made from water, vegetable fats and artificial ingredients, but from cream and fresh fruit. It has a creamy taste and is one of the main reasons for the country's huge tourism industry.
Ice cream is served in a variety of flavours and sizes. The most popular flavours are strawberry, caramel, lemonchocolate, tiramisu, hazelnut, pistachio, banana or coconut.
