The Mediterranean town of Cariati lies on the Ionian coast of Calabria, Italy. The historic centre with its narrow streets is surrounded by walls dating back to the 15th century, while the medieval part of Cariati is situated on a hill about 1 km from the sea, offering an unforgettable view of the Ionian coast.
The town is also famous for its hand-woven carpets and curtains, traditional local terracotta pottery and even its delicious ice cream, which has won awards in a worldwide competition. The promenade in the centre has regular markets in the summer, while the newer area has shops, cafes, restaurants, pizzerias and patisseries.
Cariati is a larger more lively and very nice carefully maintained resort suitable for a relaxing holiday, repeatedly winning awards Blue Flag awarded for the cleanliness of the beaches, the clear sea has several shades of blue and usually a gradual entry into the water and a sandy bottom.
