Santa Maria del Cedro is a seaside resort in the southern part of Italy - Calabria, on the Tyrrhenian coast between Scalea and Diamante. The original ancient centre of the town lies about 3 km from the sea, in the newer part by the beaches we can find modern hotels and apartments, bars, restaurants, pastry shops and shops.
The area where Santa Maria del Cedro is located is called Riviera dei Cedri (Cedar Riviera) after the typical local citrus trees grown here due to the favourable climate. They are used to make the locally famous stomach liqueur as well as lemonades, syrups and candied fruits.
The 8 km long beach has coarse dark sand with pebbles, clear sea and ainviting for swimming, sunbathing and romantic walks.

Earthquake in southern Italy
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck southern Italy shortly after midnight on 2 June 2026. Agencies report that the tremor was felt far from the epicentre.
According to the EMSC (European and Mediterranean Seismological Centre), the epicentre of the earthquake was in the sea, off the coast of the Calabria region.
