What can I refresh myself with on summer days? Episode 7 - Hugo

Hugo

The Hugo cocktail comes from South Tyrol in northern Italy and the surrounding Alpine regions. It was originally created as a regional specialty, but has gradually gained popularity throughout Europe. Its name is derived from the Central European name Hugo.

hugo is a simple cocktail that consists of a few basic ingredients:

  • Mint leaves and lemon slices - used as decoration and add to the aroma of the Hugo cocktail.

  • lime or lemon juice - adds acidity and a refreshing citrus flavour to the Hugo.

  • Soda water - used to complement the drink and adds a refreshing bubble.

  • Elderflower syrup - is the key ingredient that gives Hugo its characteristic sweet and floral taste.

  • Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) - forms the base of the Hugo cocktail and brings a lightness to it.

The Hugo is usually served in a large glass. The glass is filled with ice and prosecco is poured into it. Elderflower syrup is then added to taste and finished with soda water. Finally, the cocktail is garnished with mint leaves and a slice of lemon.

Hugo is the ideal drink for summer refreshment and social gatherings. Its lightness and freshness make it perfect for picnics, garden parties or just as a relaxing drink. It is recommended to be served chilled and consumed slowly to enjoy its full flavour and aroma.
