The beautiful ancient city of Verona is located in the northern part of Italy.in the old town, you can visit the Casa di Giulietta - a medieval townhouse that is said to have belonged to the Capulets, with Juliet's balcony and her statue in the courtyard.
In 2000, the historic centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the old part, the original moated walls, ancient castles, churches, palaces and bridges over the Adige River have been preserved.
The most famous and most visited historical building is the Arena, a huge amphitheatre from the 1st century AD. Almost all of it has been preserved, only the last floor, destroyed by an earthquake in 1183, is missing.
Another important monument is the Gothic Scaliger castle of Castel Vecchio, now a gallery.
