Sojourn tax in Venice

Like other Italian cities (Rome and Florence), the councillors in Venice decided to take the opportunity to boost the municipal coffers by introducing a residence tax.

Any guest staying in any accommodation in Venice and its immediate surroundings will now have to pay a sojourn tax (see. the only exceptions will be children under 10 years of age, guides and bus drivers (groups of at least 25 people) staying in the same hotel as the group. These categories will not be subject to the sojourn tax.

Ordinary visitors who arrive in the morning and leave in the evening after sightseeing without staying overnight will of course not pay this fee.however, for several years now, there has been a compulsory charge for tour buses (not applicable to public transport), so the city will collect something from these tourists indirectly.

To make the situation even less clear, Venice and its surroundings have been divided into 3 areas, plus two seasons. Taxes are shown in EUR per person per night.

High season (from 1 January to the first Sunday after 6 January, Carnival, the week from Ash Wednesday, the period from 1 April to 31 October, the week containing 8 December and the period from 23 December to 31 December)
