There are dozens of beaches in Sirmione, but the queen of them all is definitely Lido delle Bionde. The name comes from the word "biunda", which translates as "enclosed place". The beach is located in a cove between the park of Villa Cortine and the remains of a Roman villa known as the Grotte di Catullo. From the old town centre, take the main panoramic path, where you will see signs for Lido delle Bionde. At a good pace, the walk from the castle to the beach takes about ten minutes.
Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire. Showers and changing rooms are available. You will also find pedalo and canoe hire.
Near the beach are the remains of an ancient Roman villa, known for centuries as the Grotte di Catullo. The ruins are particularly breathtaking at sunset. You can climb up to them on paths through the olive trees straight from the beach. Or you can take a walk to the Tomelleri Park, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the lake.
