San Benedetto del Tronto is a charming town in central Italy - the Marche, on the Adriatic coast and right in the heart of the Palm Riviera. The streets and coastal promenade are lined with mature palm trees and blooming oleanders.
More than 8,000 palm trees have been planted in San Benedetto, and together with the azure sea and the medieval towns on the surrounding mountain tops, they form a unique landmark of the whole area.
The palm promenade stretches along the coast for several kilometres to the nextcupra Marittima, Grottamare and Martinsicuro, which also includes a cycle path suitable for in-line skates and a pedestrian zone.
San Benedetto lives mainly on tourism, so plenty of hotels and apartments have been built here, as well as souvenir shopsthere are no souvenir shops, coffee shops or excellent restaurants, and discos and bars open in the evening.
The whole of the Palm Riviera is popular with families with children, sportsmen and individuals - simply the ideal place for a summer holiday by the sea.
