I'm sure you've noticed the metal coffee pots during your holiday in Italy, either in your apartment or in local shops. Italians can't imagine their day without coffee, so the traditional Moka coffee machine is a common fixture in up to 90% of Italian households. The preparation is not difficult and you can do it without any problems!
Pour water into the bottom container up to the level of the valve on the outside. Fill the funnel in the middle (it has a fine sieve at the bottom) with medium ground coffee, but by no means squeeze! Screw on the top container (also with a fine sieve at the bottom) and tighten firmly so that both containers fit tightly into the funnel.
Place the prepared teapot on a low heat. After a few minutes, steam will begin to form in the lower pot, forcing the boiling water through the coffee funnel and into the upper part. Don't wait until all the water has drained out of the bottom pot to the top and set the kettle aside just before the boil is complete.
The safety valve located on the side of the bottom container is to prevent overpressure if the steam passage is blocked (e.g. if the filter is clogged by too finely ground or packed coffee).
