Polignano a Mare is located on a cliff above the Adriatic Sea in the Apulia region and is famous for itsbreathtaking scenery, historical monuments, sea caves and crystal clear water. However, it also has a cave restaurant and once a year the best cliff jumpers descend here.

Polignano a Mare has a rich history dating back to ancient times. It was settled by the Greeks and later by the Romans, who called it "Neapolis" (New Town). The medieval streets and architecture of the town reflect its long and colourful past. The historic centre is full of narrow stone streets, ancient churches and picturesque squares.

One of the main cultural monuments is the Chiesa Matrice, dedicated to Saint Vitus, the patron saint of the city. This church was built in the 13th century and its interior is richly decorated with frescoes and sculptures. Another important building is the Torre dell'Orologio, the clock tower that is the symbol of the city.

One of the most striking natural attractions of Polignano a Mare are its cliffs, which rise dramatically above the Adriatic Sea. These cliffs provide breathtaking views of the sea and are ideal for walking and photography.

Below the cliffs there are many sea caves that can be explored during boat trips. The Grotta Palazzese is one of the most famous caves and is known for its beauty and the restaurant located right inside the cave. This unique restaurant offers visitors an unforgettable gastronomic experience overlooking the sea waves. Legend has it that the cave was once a haven for pirates, who hid their treasures and planned attacks here. The place has not only a beautiful view but also a mystical atmosphere thanks to its mysterious history.

As well as swimming, you can also enjoy diving, snorkelling and kayaking. The sea around Polignano a Mare is rich in underwater life.

Puglia is famous for its excellent cuisine and Polignano a Mare is no exception. There are plenty of restaurants and trattorias in town where you can sample local specialities. Fresh seafood, homemade pasta, olive oil and wine are the staples of the local gastronomy.

One of the typical dishes is the "orecchiette", a small pasta shaped like ears, often served with tomato sauce or with broccoli and anchovies. Other specialities are 'focaccia barese' and 'panzerotti', fried dough pockets filled with cheese and tomatoes.

Polignano a Mare is also the venue for many cultural and social events. During the summer months there are many festivals, concerts and traditional celebrations. One of the most famous is the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, where the best cliff divers from all over the world descend on Polignano a Mare to perform their acrobatic jumps into the sea.
