Just a few steps from the shores of Lake Maggiore, you will find a place where nature, history and elegance are in perfect harmony - the Park and Villa Pallavicino in Stresa. Know that this is one of the most charming stops in northern Italy.
From a noble residence to a public area
Villa Pallavicino was originally the private residence of the Pallavicino family, one of the most important Italian families of the 19th century.
The villa, surrounded by meticulously maintained English-style gardens, was built around 1850 and soon became a symbol of refined life on Lake Maggiore.
Since the middle of the 20th century, the whole area has been open to the public. You can walk freely along the avenues, among the rare trees, ponds and animal enclosures that enliven the park.
A botanical park with soul
The Pallavicino Park covers an area of over 18 hectares and acts as a living museum of nature, with redwoods, magnolias, camellias, Japanese maples, azaleas and cypresses.
The gardens are carefully composed so that each path offers a different view - of the lake, of Mount Mottarone, or of the elegant villa at the centre of the grounds.
Animals to delight young and old alike
A unique part of the park is the small zoological section, which was created from the original aristocratic menagerie. Today there are llamas, kangaroos, fallow deer, zebras, parrots and peacocks that roam freely on the lawns.
The villa itself, built in a neoclassical style, is not open to the public today, but its façadethe façade and terrace overlooking the Boromean Islands are among the most photogenic spots on the entire lake.
The gardens around the villa are like a film set - no wonder weddings and cultural events are often held here.
The park is only open in season, so we always recommend checking the current opening hours. For more information, click here.
