Naples is the administrative centre of Campania. It lies 185 km southeast of Rome. It is an important port, centre of industry and commerce. According to legend, in the first half of the first millennium BC there was a Greek settlement named after the mythical siren Parthenope. At the beginning of the 5th century, the Greeks of Cyme founded the settlement of Neapolis.
The centre of Greek Naples was near the present-day port and quickly developed into a rich economic centre of Campania. The Romans conquered the area in 326 B.C. Naples nevertheless retained its Greek character until the fall of the Roman Empire in A.D. 79, the Old City of Naples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the largest historic centres in Europe.

Naples is the centre of a large number of monuments. You can see several castles, fortresses and churches, as it is home to the largest number of religious buildings in the world. The most interesting experience awaits you when you visit the ancient underground tunnels, cellars and sewers. some of Naples' most important historical monuments include the imposing Castel Nuovo. It was built between 1279 and 82 and then rebuilt in the 15th century. The San Carlo Theatre and the National Museum with monuments from the Greco-Roman era (statues, mosaics, murals from Pompeii).
