Muretto di Alassio

Muretto di Alassio

At first glance, it may appear to be just a low, seemingly ordinary wall, but a closer look reveals something extraordinary - hundreds of ceramic tiles, each with its own story. Each tile on this wall bears the signature or dedication of a famous person who has left his or her imprint here.

Alassio, a charming seaside town on the Riviera in the Liguria region, is known above all for itsfor its long sandy beach, one of the most beautiful on the Riviera. It attracts lovers of relaxation and water sports. The historic centre is lined with narrow streets, called budelli, where you will find stylish boutiques, cafés and restaurants offering traditional Ligurian specialities. However, one of the main sights is the famous Muretto di Alassio, a wall covered with tiles bearing the signatures of famous people, which has become a symbol of romance.

the "Muretto" was the brainchild of the famous Italian writer and journalist Mario Berrino, who wanted this small wall to reflect the richness of Italian culture. He placed the first signature tile here in the 1950s and since then the wall has been signed by stars such as Ernest Hemingway, Jean Cocteau, Sofia Loren and many others. Each one represents a particular moment or event, and so "Muretto" subtly links the city's history with legends of Italian and international art.

The wall is located near the city centre and is surrounded by a picturesque garden, which adds to the poetic atmosphere. For visitors to Alassio, it has become a kind of "open-air gallery" where you can enjoy extraordinary stories. Every tile, every name and every signature is a reminder that Alassio was and still is an inspiring place that attracts artists, writers and personalities from all over the world.

The Baroque church of Sant'Ambrogio, with its magnificent frescoes, is also worth a visit in Alassio. Nature lovers will appreciate trips to nearby viewpoints, such as the pilgrimage chapel of Madonna della Guardia, which offers breathtaking views of the town and the sea. Alassio is not only a popular resort, but also a place that has retained its charm and elegance.
