The resort of Fano is located on the Adriatic coast in the central part of Italy - the Marche, in an area called the Palm Riviera.
The town, originally founded as a Roman colony, was home to sailors and fishermen and has been conquered and rebuilt several times in its history. Today, it is still full of monuments: The Arch of Augustus, the walls of Augustus with fortresses and palaces, the cathedral, the monastery or the churches.
Fano is famous for its carnival, the oldest in Italy, first mentioned in 1347. Every February, the whole town is flooded with cheerful masks, decorated allegorical floats and tons of sweets.
As elsewhere on the Palma Riviera, Fano offers sandy beaches with a gradual entry into the water, clear seas and plenty of greenery, including a palm-lined coastal promenade. Of course, there are shops, restaurants, bars and patisseries, discos, playgrounds, sports facilities and cycle paths. Everyone can enjoy a summer holiday here: families with children, sportsmen, young people, individuals and seniors.
