Comacchio is a historic town in the Emilia-Romagna region, often called "Little Venice" because of its canals and bridges. It lies in the delta of the Po river and is famous for its lagoon full of eels, which are a traditional speciality here. The dominant feature of the town is the Trepponti Bridge, the symbol of Comacchia. The historic centre offers narrow streets, picturesque houses and fishermen's huts. The local museum Manifattura dei Marinati shows the traditional processing of eels. The area is part of the Delta del Po National Park, ideal for birdwatching and nature walks. The long sandy beaches of Lido di Spina and Lido degli Estensi are nearby. An annual festival dedicated to eels is held here, with tastings of local specialities. Comacchio is a quieter alternative to the busy resorts on the Adriatic. A romantic boat ride through the canals offers a unique view of the town. Besides the sea, it also attracts cycling routes in nature reserves. Among the most interesting sights is the San Cassiano Cathedral. Traditional batane boats, typical of the local waters, complete the atmosphere of the city. The proximity of Ravenna and Ferrara allows for interesting cultural excursions.
