Brancaleone is a small seaside town in Calabria on the Ionian coast. It is located in the province of Reggio Calabria and is famous for its wide beaches with fine sand. The area is part of the so-called Jasmine Coast (Costa dei Gelsomini), named after the cultivation of jasmine. Nearby is the abandoned village of Brancaleone Superiore, which offers historic ruins and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The town is an important site for the protection and conservation of the sea turtle, the common turtle. The nearby Aspromonte Nature Park offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the wildlife. Local cuisine focuses on fish, seafood and traditional Calabrian specialities such as 'nduja.
The clear waters make the area popular for snorkelling and diving.
