It almost seems like a magical fairyland. Castles and towers, a witch's trail, cable cars, fun museums and adventures... San Marino, the third smallest republic in the world, has something to offer even the little ones.

its easy accessibility from Rimini makes a visit possible for all tourists who spend their holidays on the coast in the Emilia-Romagna region. Even families with children. And you won't be bored! We have 5 great tips for you to enjoy San Marino with your kids.

1. Cable car and train

More than 160 metres above the ground and at a speed of 6 metres per second, the cable car takes you from Borgo Maggiore to the historic centre of San Marino, right between the walls. Find out what you can see and experience here below. The cable car is free for children under 120 cm.

For those who don't want to take the cable car, we recommend an equally fun ride on the little blue and white train that always runs from Borgo Maggiore (at the foot of the mountain) to San Marino. The train is motorised and runs on the tracks of the old railway and even passes through the old tunnels of Borgo Maggiore and Montalbo.
There is also a guide on the train (in several languages) who tells the important events of San Marino, the history and legends of the area during the ride (which lasts about 30 minutes).

Tickets can be conveniently purchased on the train at a price of 12 euros for adults. Children under 3 ride for free and a discounted fare of 7 euros applies for children aged 4 to 14.

2. Museum of Curiosities

In San Marino you will find about 12 state-run and 6 private museums. The most popular with young boys and girls is the Museum of Curiosities (Museo delle Curiosità). How did the nose clock work? Have you ever seen a flea trap? What did mustachioed men's teacups look like? Here you will find the answers to all these questions.

In short, on 600 square metres you will find funny stories and characters, strange and amusing objects, a unique collection that will entertain children and adults alike.

Admission is 8 euros for adults and 5 euros for children.

3.san Marino Towers and the Witches' Trail

After taking a cable car or train ride, you will find yourself in the very historic centre of San Marino. It will delight you and your children with its narrow streets. There are no cars here and you can enjoy the characteristic medieval environment in a truly authentic way. If you want to take a real trip back in time, visit the three towers that once defended the city, which can be reached via the Sentiero delle Streghe (Witches' Path). It is a stone path that winds through the battlements, connecting all three towers (Guaita Tower, Tower of the Way and Montale Tower).

According to legend, in the Middle Ages the Witches' Path was a place where women, witches and wizards gathered to dance together at night by moonlight. Today it is a peaceful walk suitable for all ages.

4. Museum of creatures of the night, vampires and werewolves

If you and your children like scary stories, you should also visit the Museum of Creatures of the Night, Vampires and Werewolves (Museo delle creature della notte, vampiri e licantropi).this museum features reproductions of horror scenes, werewolves, vampires, monsters and other scary characters. Luckily, you don't have to worry, they're all statues!

The museum is not suitable for very young children or those who don't like to be scared.

Children get in free and an adult ticket is 8 euros.

5. San Marino Adventures

For adventurers and adventurous nature lovers there is the San Marino Adventures Park , with trails among the trees where you can climb and explore while having fun in complete safety with a little adrenaline.

There are about 30 trails throughout the park that are suitable for different ages, including adults. There is also a place to relax and barbecue, so you can even have a picnic.
