Sibari is a town on the Ionian coast, in the southern part of Italy - Calabria. While the tourist resort with hotels and apartments lies just on the coast, the original centre is about 3 km inland and was founded as the Greek settlement of Sibaris in the 8th century BC. This great ancient city was destroyed in 510 BC and is now gradually being rediscovered - we definitely recommend a visit to the local museum and the Parco archeologico di Sibari.
The local beaches have fine sand, gradual entry into the water and beautifully coloured sea, in some places the so-called Sibari lakes have formed over time.
