Val Camonica, one of the longest valleys in the Alps, is a winter destination that combines varied skiing, high altitude resorts and the atmosphere of the true Lombardy mountains. From the famous Passo Tonale to the quieter Montecampione, you'll find everything from glacial terrain to long carving highways, family-friendly slopes and freeride zones.

Val Camonica is ideal for those who want the security of snow, a wide range of pistes and a less touristy atmosphere than the Dolomites.

the valley stretches almost 90 km from Lake Iseo to the Presena glacier. Thanks to this length and its ruggedness, there are several ski areas that complement each other.

Passo Tonale & Presena Glacier - the draw of Val Camonica

Passo Tonale is the winter base of Val Camonica. It offers a long season, modern lifts and wide red runs ideal for sport skiing.

Highlights:

  • skiing up to 3,000 m above sea level on the Presena glacier - the highest skiing in the valley (and one of the highest in the whole of Lombardy)

  • the long, smooth "carving" red Paradiso

  • connection to the Ponte di Legno-Temù area

  • freeride terrain between the rock ridges

Ponte di Legno - old mountain elegance

Here you'll find shaded, technical runs surrounded by forest, ideal for more experienced skiers. The local black runs are among the best in the region.

Montecampione - surprisingly great skiing with views of the Iseo

For those looking for a combination of accessibility and price, Montecampione is a pleasant surprise. It lies lower, but thanks to its north-facing orientation, it holds the snow reliably.

You'll appreciate wide runs with a soft profile, ideal for families and carving, huge views of Lake Iseo, and minimal crowds outside of weekends.

Aprica - a resort with the ideal combination of sun and shade

Aprica lies on the border between the Alps and the Valtellina Valley and is one of the most balanced resorts for families and advanced skiers. Thanks to the orientations of the slopes, there is something for everyone.

You will find very long runs (over 5-6 km), a valley section with blue runs for beginnerstechnical Baradello sections for the more experienced, regular night skiing.

Camonian mountains and history

Val Camonica is famous for its prehistoric rock engravings (UNESCO), but in winter it is the imposing massifs of Adamella and Presanella that are more impressive. These create a unique microclimate in the valley: stable winter temperatures, low humidity at higher altitudes, good quality snow until spring.

This makes the local areas popular with sports teams who come here to train.

Tips for a winter visit

  • best time of year: December-March, even longer at Presena

  • for weekends, an early start is worthwhile - some areas are popular with Italians

  • those who want to combine skiing and relaxation will appreciate the thermal baths of Boario

  • in Montecampione we recommend the sunsets over Iseo

Val Camonica is a winter area where every skier will find "their thing". It combines glacial heights, long and varied slopes, quiet family areas and beautiful Lombard landscapes.

It's the ideal choice for skiers who want more than just one resort, but don't want the crowded destinations of the Dolomites.
