In the heart of the Venetian region, hidden among the green Prosecco Hills, stands Molinetto della Croda - a fabulous water mill. This enchanting corner in the village of Refrontolo (province of Treviso) beckons with its romantic atmosphere, the sound of the water and its picturesque setting.
A mill like a fairy tale
The Molinetto della Croda dates back to the 17th century. It was built right on the rock ("croda" means rock in the local dialect) from which the waterfall that feeds the mill wheel falls. The mill served its purpose until the middle of the 20th century.
Interestingly, the mill has survived several severe floods that nearly destroyed it - including the devastating floods of 2014. At that time, the water of the Lierza River spilled over its banks and the strong current caused landslides that severely damaged the mill. However, thanks to careful reconstruction, it has been restored to its original appearance and is now one of the most photogenic sites in the whole Treviso region.

Today it functions as a museum where you can see the original flour milling mechanism and get a glimpse into the life of the millers.
A leisurely stroll with a romantic atmosphere
The mill is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the paths around it are inviting for a stroll. Just listen to the sound of the water and imagine how the mill wheel used to click. The whole area is also in the Prosecco region (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), so you can make your trip more interesting by visiting one of the local wineries.
When to go here?
Molinetto della Croda is magical at any time of year. In spring and summer everything is wrapped in lush green, in autumn the landscape plays with warm hues and in winter the mill takes on a nostalgic touch. On weekends or holidays, the mill hosts themed events, exhibitions and tastings of local specialities.
If you're looking for a quiet place with a unique charm where time has stood still, Molinetto della Croda is sure to enchant you.
