The Amalfi Coast lies south of Naples between the towns of Vietri sul Mare and Positano. To the north, it borders the Sorrento Peninsula, and to the south, it opens out toward the Gulf of Salerno. It offers breathtaking views of the coast, the island of Capri, and the endless Tyrrhenian Sea. It is often considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Europe.
Lemons, Limoncello, and Local Cuisine
The Amalfi Coast is famous for growing giant lemons of the Sfusato Amalfitano variety.
It is from these lemons that the famous limoncello liqueur is made, which is one of the region’s symbols.
Other local specialties include fresh seafood, homemade scialatielli pasta, anchovies from Cetara, lemon desserts, and buffalo mozzarella from Campania.
The most beautiful beaches of the Amalfi Coast
The coast is not known for its long sandy beaches, but rather for its beautiful coves surrounded by rocks. Among the most popular are Spiaggia Grande in Positano, Marina Grande in Amalfi, Atrani Beach, Marina di Praia in Praiano, and Fiordo di Furore.
