Smoking banned on the entire beach
As of 2019, smoking is completely banned on the beaches in Bibione. This step was taken as part of the "Respira il Mare" (" Breathe the Sea") initiative, which aims to improve air quality for holidaymakers and protect the marine environment.
The main reasons for the smoking ban are:
-
Health protection: reducing passive smoking, especially among children and vulnerable people.
-
Cleaner beach and sea: Cigarette butts are common litter and take a long time to decompose.
-
Better air quality: Less cigarette smoke means better air for everyone.
The ban applies to the entire sandy beach, including the sunbed areas. Smoking is only allowed in designated designated areas that are equipped with cigarette butt bins. These zones are strategically placed so as not to interfere with the comfort of other visitors.

How is the ban enforced?
The beach is regularly patrolled by inspectors and lifeguards to ensure compliance with the rules. Fines may be imposed in the event of a breach.
Bibione has thus set a trend that could be adopted by other seaside resorts in Italy in the coming years.
