The Skyway Monte Bianco is not just an ordinary cable car. Thanks to its unique rotating cabins, you can enjoy views in all directions during the ride without having to change seats. That’s why it’s often called one of the most modern and beautiful cable cars in the world.
Where is the Skyway Monte Bianco located?
The lower station of the cable car is located in the village of Entrèves, near the town of Courmayeur in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy. Thanks to its proximity to the Mont Blanc Tunnel, it is easily accessible from Italy, France, and Switzerland. The trip from Courmayeur takes only a few minutes, and the journey itself offers magnificent views of the surrounding Alpine peaks.
The cabins rotate 360 degrees during the ride
One of the biggest attractions of the Skyway Monte Bianco is its panoramic cabins, which slowly rotate around their axis during the ascent. This allows every passenger, regardless of where they’re seated, to enjoy views of glaciers, rock faces, and the surrounding four-thousand-meter peaks. During the ride, you’ll climb more than 2,000 meters in elevation, and the landscape will change rapidly before your eyes—from green mountain meadows to ice and snow.
What awaits you at the summit?
The highest station, Punta Helbronner, lies at an altitude of 3,466 meters. But the experience here doesn’t end with just the breathtaking views! Here, you can step out onto a circular panoramic terrace offering a 360° view of the Mont Blanc massif, glaciers, and the highest peaks of the Alps. The more adventurous will be drawn to the glass-enclosed Sky Vertigo observation deck, which creates the sensation of walking over a mountain chasm.
Inside the station, you’ll also find an exhibition dedicated to crystals from the Mont Blanc massif, the highest-altitude bookstore in Europe, and a designer panoramic bistro overlooking the glaciers.
And that’s not all! At the Pavillon intermediate station, you’ll find the unique Infinity Room, where mirrors and lighting effects blend the surrounding mountain landscape with an optical illusion of infinity. You’ll also find Hangar 2173 (if you’re interested in the history of the cable car), the Alpine Cinema, and the Cave Mont Blanc wine cellar.

During the summer season, you can also continue on the Panoramic Mont Blanc cable car to the French side, to the Aiguille du Midi area, and experience a unique flight directly over the glaciers.
When is the best time to visit the cable car?
The Skyway Monte Bianco operates for most of the year. Every season has its own charm: in summer, snow-capped peaks with blooming mountain meadows, while in winter, the entire area transforms into a paradise for mountain lovers and winter sports enthusiasts.
The most beautiful views are usually on clear days, so it’s worth checking the forecast and planning your visit for days with good visibility.
Practical Information Before Your Visit
At an altitude of nearly three and a half thousand meters, the air is thinner and temperatures can be just a few degrees above freezing even in summer. We therefore recommend warm clothing, sturdy shoes, and plenty of time to acclimatize, especially if you plan to spend an extended period on the observation decks. There is an admission fee for the cable car, and during the peak tourist season, it’s advisable to book your ride in advance.

One of the Best Experiences in the Alps
Skyway Monte Bianco combines modern technology with a unique Alpine landscape. Whether you’re a mountain lover, a photography enthusiast, or simply looking for an extraordinary excursion during your vacation in northern Italy, a ride on this cable car is an unforgettable experience. There are few places where you can get so close to Europe’s highest mountain without having to put on crampons.
