The Prosecco Ring winds through the landscape where the famous Prosecco is produced
The area around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene is one of the most famous wine regions in the Veneto. The hilly landscape here is associated with the production of Prosecco Superiore di Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG.
It is precisely among these vineyards that the hiking trail known as the Prosecco Superiore Ring—or Anello del Prosecco Superiore—runs.
The loop is approximately 15 kilometers long and can be completed on foot or by bike. It begins and ends in the village of San Pietro di Barbozza, located about two kilometers from the center of Valdobbiadene.
But don’t expect a paved bike path right away. The route alternates between dirt roads and paved sections and winds through rolling terrain. You’ll encounter repeated ascents and descents along the way.
Where exactly does the route go?
The Prosecco Ring passes through several parts of the Valdobbiadene wine region.
From San Pietro di Barbozza, it continues toward Santo Stefano, Saccol, and Guia, and also passes through the Cartizze region.
Cartizze is one of the most famous parts of this wine region. The hills are covered with vineyards, and scattered among them are small farmsteads, wineries, churches, and other structures that reflect the long history of local agriculture.
The biggest attraction, however, remains the landscape itself.
Vineyards stretch across the local hills, and on a clear day, the outlines of the Dolomites can be seen in the distance.
Why is the Prosecco Ring best in the fall?
If you want to truly enjoy the route, fall is a great choice.
After the grape harvest, the vineyards begin to take on shades of yellow and gold. It is precisely this combination of hills, vineyards, and fall colors that makes the region a very attractive destination for a trip. The official tourism portal Italia.it recommends the Prosecco Ring specifically during the fall season.
October and November are also the months when chestnuts and mushrooms appear in the surrounding forests. So you can combine your trip with tastings of other local fall specialties—and, of course, Prosecco.
A trip where you can sample
The Prosecco Ring isn’t just a tourist route. It’s also a culinary journey.
In the area, you’ll find a number of wineries and wine cellars where you can taste the local Prosecco Superiore. Local specialties also include cheeses, cured meats, honey, and grappa. Just keep in mind, of course, that if you’re walking or biking, it’s not a good idea to plan on drinking large amounts of alcohol before finishing the route.
The wooden sculptures are also worth seeing
Along the way, you may come across unusual works of art from the VignArte project.
These are sculptures made from chestnut stakes, which were traditionally used to support grapevines. Local artists have given them new life, creating an outdoor gallery along the vineyards that blends art with the wine-growing landscape.
Can you handle 15 kilometers?
Fifteen kilometers might not sound like a challenging hike, but keep in mind that the Prosecco Ring winds through hilly terrain.
So it’s not exactly a flat, leisurely stroll. The route has a number of ascents and descents, and unpaved paths alternate with paved sections.
If you’re not sure whether you can complete the entire loop, you don’t have to walk all 15 kilometers. The official route description states that, depending on the turns and intersections you choose, you can shorten the route and walk only part of it.
This is convenient, for example, for families or visitors who want to combine the walk with other excursions in the area.
What else is there to see around Valdobbiadene?
The Prosecco Ring alone isn’t a reason to stay in the area for just a few hours.
Valdobbiadene, Conegliano, and other towns in the Prosecco Hills region are also worth a visit.
The landscape between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019. Among other things, this is due to the distinctive landscape shaped by centuries of farming on the region’s steep slopes.
So if you have more time, you can plan a multi-day road trip through the wine region.
The Prosecco Ring: A Great Option for a Fall Trip
If you’re looking for an autumn trip in Italy that combines nature, wine, gastronomy, and outdoor activities, the Prosecco Ring is a very interesting option.
You don’t have to be an avid hiker or a wine connoisseur. You can walk just part of the route, stop at a winery, visit the surrounding villages, and enjoy the landscape, which is especially colorful in the fall after the harvest.
