In the middle of the Lombardy Alps, high above Lake Como, is a natural rock formation called the Porta di Prada - "Gate of Prada". This impressive stone arch has become a popular destination for mountain and panorama lovers.

It is a naturally formed rock arch located between the Grigna Settentrionale and Monte Pilastro, at an altitude of around 1,620 metres. From a distance, it resembles a massive stone gate or window through which you can see the mountain peaks and the surface of Lake Como in the distance.

Porta di Prada and Leonardo da Vinci

Interestingly, according to some historians and local legend, Porta di Prada appears in the background of the famous Mona Lisa painting! They claim that Leonardo da Vinci sketched the rock arch and the surrounding landscape during his travels in the area and projected them into his most famous work.
