Where is Ponte nel Cielo located?
The footbridge is located in the Val Tartano valley in the Lombardy region, about a two-hour drive from Milan. It connects the mountain villages of Campo Tartano and Frasnino and spans high above the valley through which the Tartano mountain stream flows. The journey to the footbridge itself winds through mountainous terrain, and the drive there is part of the experience. Thanks to its location, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, forests, and traditional Alpine farmsteads.

Ponte nel Cielo is approximately 234 meters long and, at its highest point, is about 140 meters above the ground. The structure consists of steel cables and a metal grating, allowing you to see directly below you as you walk.
The bridge is intended exclusively for pedestrians. Although it is very safe, it sways slightly as you cross, adding a bit of adrenaline to the entire walk.

Ponte nel Cielo is also accessible to families with children, provided the children can walk on their own and aren’t afraid of heights. However, strollers and bicycles are not allowed on the bridge.
If you suffer from a severe fear of heights, crossing the bridge may be mentally challenging. Most visitors, however, confirm that after a few meters, you get used to the height and begin to enjoy the views of the surrounding area.
It’s often windier on the bridge than in the valley, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket even in the summer. Sturdy athletic shoes are also recommended, as the path to the footbridge follows mountain trails.
There is an admission fee to Ponte nel Cielo ( 8 euros), and the price may vary during the season. Advance reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and during summer vacation, when the bridge is very popular.
When is the best time to visit Ponte nel Cielo?
The most beautiful time to visit is from late spring through fall. In the summer, weekends tend to be the busiest, so it’s best to arrive first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. In the spring, the surrounding landscape is a fresh green, while in the fall it glows with all shades of yellow, orange, and red. Each season offers a slightly different atmosphere.
