a chess game with human pieces
Marostica is most famous for the event that takes place every even-numbered year in September - Partita a Scacchi. The main square, Piazza degli Scacchi, is lit up with a huge stone chessboard and historically dressed "pawns" and "kings" play a chess game according to a precise scenario. This tradition has its roots in the 15th century, when two noblemen fell in love with the same girl. Instead of a duel to the death, they decided to compete for her hand in a game of chess - and a legend was born.

Medieval walls and two fortresses
Marostica is a town that has retained its medieval character. The old city walls connect two fortresses - the Lower Castle (Castello Inferiore) and the Upper Castle (Castello Superiore). The Lower Castle is located right on the square and serves today as a museum and tourist information centre. A path leads to the Upper Castle, which offers a magnificent view of the town and the surrounding countryside. For history buffs and lovers of beautiful panoramas, this is a must-stop.

Cherries from Marostica - the fruit pride of the region
Another reason to go to Marostica is the local gastronomy, especially the cherries, which are so famous that they have been awarded the Protected Designation of Origin (IGP). Every spring, the Cherry Festival (Festa della Ciliegia) takes place, where you can taste not only the fresh fruit but also various specialities, sweets, liqueurs and marmalades.

The charm of the Venetian countryside
narrow streets, stone houses, cosy cafés and wine bars create the typical atmosphere of the Italian countryside in Marostica, where life slows down and every moment becomes a pleasure. The locals are hospitable, the food is delicious and the wine from the surrounding vineyards is also worth a taste.
