A city in the round
The very name Locorotondo means "circular place". The historic core of the town has indeed grown into a circle, surrounded by narrow streets, whitewashed houses and tiny churches. All the facades are white, without exception!
What distinguishes it from other Apulian towns are the characteristic "cummerse" roofs - high, sloping roofs covered with grey slate. Only a few towns in Puglia have them.
Things to see and do not miss
A slow walk through the historic centre
There's no rush. The streets are narrow, flower boxes everywhere, little surprises at every turn. Worth seeing is the Chiesa Madre San Giorgio - the main church with a beautiful interior. And you will definitely be captivated by thelittle courtyard "chiassi " - hidden corners, patios and passages.
Belvedere: view of the Itria Valley
On the edge of town you will come across a viewpoint that is one of the most beautiful in the whole of Puglia. Below you, a sea of trulli, vineyards, olive trees and cypresses opens up. The light is soft in the morning and golden in the evening.
Locorotondo DOC wine tasting
Locorotondo is also a wine town. Locorotondo DOC dry white wine is dry, light, with a delicate citrus and herbal aroma.
Stop by one of the local enotecas, it's cozy, lively, local. Or head straight to a winery in the area.
