History and importance of the Imola circuit
The Imola circuit, named after Ferrari founder Enzo and his son Dino, is located in the Emilia-Romagna region. Since its opening in 1953, it has been the scene of many memorable races. From 1981 to 2006 it hosted the San Marino Grand Prix, and from 2020 Formula 1 will return here with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
The circuit is known for its technical difficulty, fast corners and historic moments, including Ayrton Senna's tragic accident in 1994.
The 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix
In 2025, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will be held as the seventh race of the season. The 4.909 km circuit offers 63 laps of adrenaline-fuelled, strategic battles. The race is a key point in the season as teams move on to the European part of the championship.
Max Verstappen, who won here in 2024, is once again among the favourites. McLaren, led by Oscar Piastri, who leads the drivers' championship, and Lando Norris, are strong contenders. Ferrari, with Lewis Hamilton making his Italian debut here and young talent Kimi Antonelli, are looking to exploit home advantage.
