As of 1 January 2024, a new system of entry fees for tourists will be in force in Venice. This fee has been introduced in an effort to protect the city's infrastructure and environment, which are under high tourist pressure every year. The entry fee is planned for all visitors who come to Venice for a day trip and are not staying in the city's hotels.
How does it work? Who will pay the entrance fee and who will not?
The entrance fee is collected from tourists who plan to visit the city for one day. Tourists who book accommodation in Venice are exempt from the fee, as are children under the age of 14, disabled persons, residents of the region and students attending educational institutions. So if you are staying in Venice, you must apply for the exemption on this website.
The fee for entry to Venice is €5 per person for those booking four days or more before arrival, while for those booking three days or less before arrival it will be €10 per person.
In 2025, the entrance fee will always apply from 8:30am to 4pm on these days:
Month | Charged days |

How can I save money on admission to Venice?
Venice's main aim with the introduction of admission fees is to reduce the number of day trips.tourists and to shift at least some of them from the most visited days to less exposed dates. Therefore, by choosing the right time to visit, it is possible to avoid paying the entrance fee.
While this may be an unwelcome change for some visitors, the long-term sustainable development of the city and the protection of its unique heritage are priorities that go beyond short-term interests. This experiment will be closely watched by other tourist destinations around the world that are facing similar issues.
Tourists staying in accommodation within the Municipality of Venice are NOT required to pay an entrance fee, but must apply for an exemption on this website:https://cda.comune.venezia.it/it/richiestaEsenzione
