Why visit Cala Sarraina
Why visit this special place, you ask? There are several reasons:
-
Crystal clear water - excellent conditions for snorkelling, visibility tends to be perfect.
-
Natural scenery - the surrounding granite formations create photogenic coves and small natural "pools".
-
Quieter atmosphere - due to its more remote location, it is not congested even in high season.
-
Pleasant, golden sand - suitable for families and those who prefer easier access to the water.
What you will find here
The beach offers free and paid parking, and there's a paved path leading to the beach. Amenities on the beach include luxury sunbeds and umbrellas (although a little pricey).the beach has a main cove and several smaller ones that open up along the shore. Surrounding rocks protect the place from the wind and create small lagoons with stagnant, warm water. There is a small bar, toilets and parking - so basic services are not lacking, but the character remains semi-wild.
How to get here
The nearest towns are Vignola Mare, Costa Paradiso and Santa Teresa Gallura. The car park is right above the beach, from where there is a short, easy walking path. Navigating "Cala Sarraina" will take you to the place.
Activities and tips
We recommend snorkelling around the rocky outcrops - you'll often see schools of fish and starfish here.
The rock formations change beautifully to golden hues, and sunset photos from here are exactly the ones you need to have in your album or on social media.
From the upper belt of trails there are panoramic views of the entire northern tip of Gallura. You can enjoy little hikes over the beach.
Definitely remember to pack water and an umbrella! There is virtually no natural shade.
When to go here
The best times to visit Cala Sarraina are May, June and September when the sea is warm and there are significantly fewer tourists. The beach tends to be livelier in high season in July and August, but it's still not a La Pelosa-type mass destination.
Cala Sarraina is ideal for those looking for a beautiful, natural beach with an authentic northern Sardinian feel. It offers clear seas, postcard-perfect scenery and relative tranquillity - yet it's easily accessible and unpretentious. A great place for a day's relaxation, snorkelling and exploring the coast of Gallura.
