We have another beautiful tip for your trip. This time on the west coast of Tuscany, near Populonia and the bay of Baratti: Buca delle Fate, or the "Den of the Fairies".according to local legend, fairies once lived here, luring sailors with their song and light after dark. Some say that the folds of the rocks hide a portal to another world. Whether you believe the legends or not, the place has a special energy and is definitely worth a visit!

Where Buca delle Fate is located

Buca delle Fate is located on the Piombino peninsula in the province of Livorno, close to the Etruscan town of Populonia and the famous bay of Baratti.
The way to reach it is from the car park at Il Reciso, from where you follow a signposted path for about 20 minutes on foot through an oak forest. The route is short but steep - in summer we recommend starting in the morning or evening.

What to expect at the site

At the end of the trail, a breathtaking view of the endless sea and steep cliffs washed by clear water opens up. Swimming is possible, but only for the fittest - you descend into the sea on rocks. On hot days, you will find peace, refreshment and almost complete silence, broken only by the sound of the waves. The ideal place for those seeking an authentic experience without the crowds.

Tip.

Just a few minutes away lies Populonia Alta, the only Etruscan town built by the sea. It offers ancient walls, panoramic views and an archaeological park that tells the story of an ancient civilisation.
