Bassano played an important role in the world wars, especially the first one, which is commemorated by the museum and monument on Monte Grappa that towers over the town. At the same time, there is a wealth of culture, such as the Remondini Museum, dedicated to graphic art, and the works of the painter Jacopo Bassano, after whom the town is named.
Ponte degli Alpini - the symbol of the city
Bassano's most iconic structure is undoubtedly the Ponte degli Alpini, a covered wooden bridge over the Brenta River. It was designed by the famous Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio in the 16th century. The bridge has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, most recently thanks to the initiative of war veterans from the Alpini units, after whom it is now named. The view from the bridge over the river, the mountains and the historic houses is unforgettable!

Home of the famous grappa
Bassano is considered the cradle of grappa, the Italian spirit made from grape pomace. Visit the Grappa Museum at the Poli Distillery, located right next to the bridge. You'll learn all about the production of this drink and of course there will be tastings - from classic versions to fine flavoured grappa liqueurs.
The legendary grapperie is also located at the other end of the Ponte degli Alpini bridge. This is the historic headquarters of the Nardini company. Grapperia Nardini is one of Italy's oldest distilleries. You can't leave until you've tasted Nardini's "mezzo e mezzo" (half and half)! It's an old cocktail that consists of 1/2 Rebarboro (a liqueur from the Nardini distillery) and 1/2 soda and lemon.

Historic centre full of atmosphere
The streets of Bassano are like a postcard - elegant arcades, colourful facades, Renaissance palaces and cosy squares like Piazza Garibaldi or Piazza Libertà, where you can enjoy an espresso and watch the quiet life of the town. There are also museums, galleries and arts and crafts shops - Bassano is famous for ceramics and paper making, for example.
